Your Future Adult Star Might be an AI Who Never Existed!
Thispersondoesnotexist.com is the domain to Phil Wang’s future normal in porn. And indeed, those people do not exist. The ex-Uber engineer is working on artificial intelligence technology that will see porn create faces and profiles for people that do not exist.
Wang’s tech uses an algorithm to form a series of competing faces—each looking to create the most convincing fake profile. And some critics, according to a Washington Post news-story, believe that the idea will lead to more counterfeit profiles (of those who don’t exist) than real ones in most online platforms.
But Wang is positive we need more new faces around.
“The future of porn uses a coding system known as the Generative Adversarial Network, aka StyleGAN, to build a series of faces that have never been. What Thispersondoesnotexist.com really shows is that even for a data distribution that we are so well crafted to understand as human beings, the machine can pick apart all the relevant features and coherently recompose them.”
Fears of Deep-fakes
But Wang is facing major opposition from critics who link his approach (the use of Generative Adversarial Network) to the increase in deep-fakes.
An example of a deep-fake is when an online scammer tries to map a celeb’s face to a porn video that they were never part of. Many times the intent is to and use these malicious content to target the victim, who are often female.
A shocking study revealed by DeepTrace Research showed that over 95 percent of all deep-fake clips were porn and in many instances, they were used to blackmail and harass females
“The regulatory system is not working fast enough to deal with cases of sex-related images, and Artificial intelligence is fueling the problem,” according to Rachel Thomas, Creator of Fast.ai.
More concerns: Whole-body Deep-fakes?
Again experts fear that the tech may advance from fake faces to fake whole-bodies. Just last year, Datagrid.com, a Japanese AI firm, made significant milestones in whole-body deep-fakes. And the concern for opponents is that such technologies could lead to more counterfeit than real adult content.
So your favorite live cam ebony beauty could be “cloned” to do better stuff, and you may not realize it wasn’t her.
Now what?
From the porn industry’s (and some porn lover’s) point of view, maybe nothing is wrong with deep-fakes. Somehow, it opens new opportunities to explore and create the extreme content many users want.
But we can’t take lying down, the fact that our women will be major victims of harassment if whole-body deep-fakes aren’t regulated.
